Description
Made in Constantinople. Dated 1808 (1223 H.).
A. Necklace, Two strings of round gilded glass beads hung with seventeen copper gilt Turkish medals.
B. Bracelet. Five Turkish, and seven European medals ("for Egyptian ladies"), copper gilt.
C,D. Earrings, each with Turkish medal and pendant ball, copper gilt. Arabic inscription on large medal on b: "Sultan of the two continents and lord of the two oceans, Sultan son of the Sultan"; and "Sultan Mahmud Khan son of Sultan 'Abd-al-Hamid Khan. Long last his reign." (Trans. Dr. F. Rosenthal).
