Best for Grades: K-2, 3-5

Do you have an eye to preserve archaeological discoveries? Learn how scientists use technology and observation to reveal what lies under the wrappings of mummies! Then test your skills with a matching game that requires students to closely study x-rays of animal mummies in the Penn Museum!

Preserving the Past

Best for Grades: 6-8, 9-12, Adult

How is science used to preserve ancient artifacts? Investigate the science of deterioration and preservation by walking through the real treatment of an ancient Egyptian funerary object in the Penn Museum collection. Participants practice the basics of conservation to simulate how the Museum cares for and learns from ancient artifacts.

Reading Ancient Artifacts

Prepare your learners to practice their critical skills by sharing their observations, stating claims, and forming questions about an artifact in the Museum’s collection. This 30-minute virtual visit is available for the special price of $100.00 through the end of the academic year!
